Google’s deal to acquire Motorola with $1.25 billion in cash shocks the world. Not like Google’s normal way, it was kept so secret that nobody realize it until it just happened. Like Techcrunch’s MG.Sigler said “Google is pulling off an acquisition that is larger than any that Microsoft, Apple, or any of their other main competitors ever have”, we’ll dig and penetrate how this deal will influence the tech world.
1. Avoid Patent Battle to Replace Marketing Competition
It’s clear that patent battle fires up after Android started to boom. Each Android phone needs to pay $5 to Microsoft for license fee, which largely increase the cost of Android phone and make it hard to remain competitive. Then HTC, Samsung as well as Motorola weresued for patent infringement by Apple one by one all over the world, which makes Samsung’s newest Galaxy Tab 1.0 delay to launch in Europe or may be banned in Europe. Kaifu Li, used to be Google China CEO, thinks it’s for sure Google will keep Android open as it’s what google always do: keep it open and available to most people. Google focus on potential local mobile ads which means it is encouraged as many devices as possible to use Android OS with google maps and other google applications. Google won’t turn to a phone manufacture.
3. Motorola will be independent.
There are already lots of discussions on how google will deal with Motorola. They have totally different company cultures. One focus on network, the other focus traditional hardwares. And Motorola will add 60% employees for Google if this acquisition success. In this case, Motorola is very possible to be independent with only finacial support from google. It is also possible for Motorola to release much higher quality following Apple’s success to integrate hardware, software with service together.
4. Microsoft won’t Buy Nokia, Google+Motorola can’t replace Apple
Nokia’s stock price grows after people hear Google will acquire Motorola. People may think Microsoft will buy Nokia soon. But it won’t happen as Nokia just set agreement with Microsoftwhich it will hugely benefit from that. So Microsoft don’t worry to lose Nokia. The curent goal for Microsoft is to gain more Wphone partners. They won’t buy Nokia to keep them away. That’s why Microsoft claimed Wphone is totally open to OEM dryly after Google announced to acquire Motorola.
However, Even with Motorola, the new google still can’t compare with Apple. Apple has unique and advanced technicals to combine fantastic hardware with software together. Well, Google has to face the new problem to integrate Motorola. And there still needs more work to come up with Apple.s
5. Patent Become a sharp Weapon on Mobile
Technology geeks can well aware the big role Patent played on the new tech war. Company with competitive patents(like Microsoft) can get licence fees from those ones not have or make it a weapon to hold the rivals’ development(like Apple). Patent worth more and more and becomes a powerful tool, which will keep newbies away.
